This Sunday a lot of Americans will be celebrating two holidays: Easter AND April Fool’s Day.
Easter is a religious holiday. The non-religious part of the celebration is when children are visited by the Easter Bunny and get baskets of chocolate eggs, chocolate rabbits and other candy. There is usually an Easter egg hunt, which is when children go outside to find colorful eggs that are hidden around the yard or house.
April Fool’s Day is always on April 1st. It’s a day where you are supposed to go and play tricks and pranks on your friends and colleagues.
The two holidays don’t happen on the same day very often. This year, some people have decided to combine the holidays in order to have some fun at their kids’ expense.
Have fun at someone’s expense means to play a joke on someone or to make a joke about someone. In this case, it means to play tricks on the kids!
