Faux pas

This comes from French, and means something that you “must not” do.
If you “commit a faux pas” you are doing something that is not OK in your social setting or situation. It is either rude or shows you don’t know the rules of politeness.

For example: Eating your steak with your fingers is a faux pas in public in the USA.
